  march 19th, 2010 / 9pm
richard garet (nyc) and bonnie jones (baltimore)
garet and jones will create an evolving, undulating, shifting terrain of live video, text, voice,
and electronic sounds. the performance will combine both improvised collaboration as well as areas
guided by the video and/or text projections. the project explores the creation of environments that
explore the real and artificial / the material and ephemeral - in effect short circuiting the senses.

richard garet is currently involved in long-distance collaborations with boston’s composer brendan murray. garet is also an active participant of the multimedia collaborative group (ea).

(ea) - is a photo-electro-acoustic project instigated by gill arno (b, italy), richard garet (b, uruguay), andre golcalves (b, portugal), andy graydon (b, usa), ben owen (b, usa), and gil sanson (b, venezuela). while the interests and approaches of each participant vary widely, everyone generally works within the idiom of computer-processed natural and instrumental sounds, and with the interrelation of the visual environment with the aural environment through slide, film, and video projections. the group’s involvement is open and evolving, always incorporating new forms and dividing into smaller focused specialties. one facet of the group’s dynamic is to define smaller performance ensembles -- duos, trios, etc -- from within the larger group for specific pieces. in keeping with this evolving paradigm, the acronym (ea) does not refer to any fixed phrase. ea works with improvisations as well as with rule-based compositions written by individual participants. performances alternate between large group improvisations and practiced compositions drawn from the group’s repertoire, often played by smaller units of the group.

lmakseries is the latest development in the gallery’s continued commitment to time-based works and performance practices. events will include installation-performances, music and sound art compositions, film and video screenings, and hybrid events that challenge traditional modes of exhibition. this new series furthers lmakproject’s aim to integrate film, video, sound art, and media performance into the gallery’s mission and its vision of the contemporary landscape. one particular interest of the series is in exploring the ongoing inter-relationships between digital media, film, and music, whose practices may incorporate improvisation, computer processing, live interaction, narrative, sculptural and spatial aspects in ways that open our conception of both art practice and reception. lmakseries will represent a breadth of approaches and projects over time. each individual event, however, will be focused on the specificity and singularity of each artist’s work, and on creating an engagement with the work that reaches beyond the broad thematic treatments of group exhibitions and festivals. lmakseries is curated by louky keijsers, richard garet and in consultation with berlin based andy graydon.
